Asa Buck, Sheriff

The Sheriff is the principal law enforcement officer in Carteret County, and is directly elected by the citizens of the County to a four year term. Asa Buck was elected to his first term as Sheriff in November of 2006.

The Sheriff's Department patrols unincorporated areas of Carteret County, responds to calls for service, and investigates crimes in these areas. The Sheriff's Department also serves criminal papers and civil papers, provides courtroom security, and operates the E-911 communications center. The Sheriff is also responsible for the operation of the County jail in Beaufort. The Teen Court program also reports to the Sheriff.
