The
Fire Marshal serves as a liaison between the County and
the 23 fire departments that serve Carteret County. Duties of the Fire Marshal include maintaining fire
records and submitting required reports to appropriate
state agencies, investigation of all fires of a suspicious
origin and all fires with an injury or death, fire
inspections in the unincorporated areas of the County,
and technical assistance to the various fire departments.
The
Fire Marshal also reviews budget requests submitted by
the various fire departments that are funded by County
special district taxes, and works with the County Manager
to recommend a tax rate for the various fire tax districts
in the County.
