| The
County Manager is the chief administrative official of
County government, serving at the pleasure at the Board
of County
Commissioners. The County Manager is responsible for the
overall management of County departments under the Board's
control and coordinates with other County departments not
under the Board's direct control to maintain a cohesive County
government organization. The County Manager's duties include
preparing the recommended budget for all County departments,
recommending new and revised policies and programs to the
Board of County Commissioners, and implementing County
programs and services in an efficient and effective manner.
John
Langdon is the County Manager, and began serving in that
position in April 2004. Jack Veit is the Assistant County Manager of Public Facilities . Melinda Davis was hired in November 2006 as the Deputy Clerk to the Board.

Jeanette Deese serves as the Clerk to the Board to the Board of Commissioners. The Clerk to the Board records the actions of the Board of County Commissioners, maintains the record of County Ordinances, and maintains public records for public review. Ms. Deese has been employed with Carteret County Government since 1992, beginning her employment in the Engineering Department. Prior to her appointment as Clerk to the Board, she served as the Deputy Clerk/Administrative Officer. Ms. Deese has earned the professional designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) as conferred by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).
