| The
Animal and Mosquito Control Division is responsible for programs
that are designed to protect the public from health concerns
and nuisances associated with dangerous animals and mosquitoes.
Animal Control
Animal
Control staff respond to reports of potentially rabid
animals, dangerous dogs, loose dogs and cats, and animal
cruelty. Animal Control staff apprehend potentially rabid
animals, and coordinate with State officials to determine
if the animal is rabid and eliminate the public health
concern. Dangerous dogs are subject to special restrictions,
and Animal Control staff are charged with enforcing these
regulations. Loose dogs and cats are apprehended, and
delivered to the Carteret County Animal Shelter, located
on Hibbs Road for reclamation by its owner, adoption,
or euthanization. The Carteret County Animal Shelter
is operated by the Carteret County Humane Society, under
contract with the County.
The Animal Control Division is regarded as Pest Management and is managed by the Health Department.
